Odisha youth caught in 'date trap' by police; married five women, linked to 49

Bhubaneswar, Aug 3: Commissionerate police on Saturday arrested a serial cheater identified as Satyajit Managovind Samal of Jajpur on charges of duping multiple women on the pretext of marriage. 

Sources said, Samal was staying here in Chandrasekharpur area. A lady officer interacted with the Samal, who used to flee to Dubai after duping women. Samal was nabbed based on the complaint filed by two victims at Capital Police station. He had duped the first victim to the tune of Rs 36 lakh and a car and Rs 8 lakh and a bullet from the second victim.

Sources revealed that Samal had a history of defrauding women and would allegedly flee to Dubai after committing the fraud.

During the investigation, it was discovered that Samal had engaged in conversations with 49 additional women on matrimonial websites. He used to target divorcees through matrimonial websites and build relationship with them. After forging marriage agreements, he takes cash and vehicles from the victims.

Rs 2 lakh in cash and several vehicles were seized from the possession of Samal. Additionally, Rs 1 lakh in his bank account has been frozen. Bank accounts containing deposits exceeding Rs 1 lakh, along with cash amounts exceeding Rs 2 lakh, and several vehicles were also seized, said police.
