Puducherry, Jan 15: Their men's team might have struggled against Odisha in the Ranji Trophy tie in Indore, but Madhya Pradesh women had no problem in outplaying Odisha and posting a 7 wicket victory at CAP Ground 2, here.
Winning the toss in a Senior Women's One-day Trophy match on Sunday, Madhya Pradesh women bundled out Odisha for a paltry 64 in just 28.1 overs. Then they easily achieved the target in only 19.3 overs, losing three wickets.
For Odisha, top order batter Anjali Singh, who scored 17 in 22 balls was the best performer with the willow. Prgyan Parimita Mohanty (12 in 33 balls), was the only other player to have shown some confidence at the crease.
MP bowlers Vaishnavi Sharma (3/18) and Poonam Soni (2/9), never allowed Odisha to recover from the early jolts.
While chasing, MP's Anushka Sharma (26 not out in 49 balls) faced Odisha bowlers with determination and authority to let her team achieve the small total, with much hiccup.
Madhya Pradesh did lose three wickets. But meagre target of 65 was never enough for Odisha to put up a fight, despite the track favouring bowlers.
For Odisha, Laxmipriya Naik (1/3) and Rameshwari Naik (1/17) did create hope, but MP showed enough maturity not to crumble while chasing.
Brief scores:
Odisha 64/10 (28.1 overs);
Madhya Pradesh 65/3 (19.3 overs).
Madhya Pradesh won by 7 wickets.
