Bhubaneswar, Dec 3: Odisha Women in Media, the social wing of women journalists in collaboration with the Commissionerate Police took up mass greenery initiatives here in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
The forum sensitized people on the seed-ball techniques, to promote greenery in the twin cities Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, in funny ways by preparing balls of soil and seeds and scattering them conveniently on barren grounds, with the help of different social groups.
The green mission of the Union of journo was kickstarted today, from the Chandaka Police Station Campus wherein at least 180 women journalists along with the Commissionerate Police planted saplings. Subsequently, seed ball-making was continued by them, to create mass awareness on the innovative concepts of seed-ball plantation. They made seed balls with seeds of drumsticks, Radhachuda, custard apple, and many varieties of flowering plant seeds. The volunteers planted varieties of saplings including mango, jackfruit, guava, lichi, and bakul plants.
Commissioner of Police Soumendra Priyadarshi and Deputy Commissioner of Police Prateek Singh led the green initiatives of the journalists who ensured drying and dispersing of the seed-balls prepared here in different places, by the contingents of the police.
