Odisha: Woman’s mutilated body found, daughter critical in locked house in Brahmapur

Brahmapur, Aug 11: In a horrific incident, the mutilated body of a woman was recovered while her daughter was found battling for life with critical injuries from a locked house in Nimakhandi area of Odisha’s Brahmapur city.

The deceased has been identified as Gayatri Swain (33) and the incident has been reported from Shakti Nagar area under Nimakhandi police limits in Brahmapur.

According to house owner N. Leela Devi, the mother-daughter duo had been residing in a rented house since August 3. Gayatri’s husband, Sadhu Swain, lives in Bhubaneswar. Three days ago, Gayatri and her daughter had gone to her mother’s house in Hinjilicut. 

Last evening, Gayatri’s brother, Chitrasen Swain, brought them back to the house in Brahmapur and left.

This morning, when the house owner noticed that the door was locked, she contacted Sadhu and informed him. Following this, Sadhu instructed Chitrasen to check on them. Chitrasen, along with others, arrived at the house, broke the lock, and entered. They found Gayatri's lifeless body, while her daughter, Nilam, was in a critical condition. She was then rushed to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment, where she is fighting for her life.

Upon getting the information, police arrived at the spot and took stock of the situation. The cops also seized the deceased woman’s body and sent it for post-mortem.

Though the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that some miscreants might have attacked the duo with sharp-edged weapons.

The exact motive behind the horrific murder remains unclear, and the perpetrators have yet to be identified. Further investigation into the matter is underway, said the police.
