Phulbani, Oct 18: A woman allegedly killed her 4-year-old daughter and later buried the body in a forest in Sarangada area of Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
Though the incident took place on Saturday (October 14), it came to fore today after the woman’s father suspected foul play and lodged a complaint with the police.
Based on the complaint, the cops later exhumed the body and sent it for post-mortem.
As per reports, the accused identified as Padmini Dandia (23) took her daughter Surekha to a forest near Gutingia village under Sarangada police limits on the fateful day and strangled the baby to death. Thereafter, she buried the body at the spot and returned home.
The cops have detained the accused for questioning.
The exact reason behind her brutal act is yet to be ascertained. However, it was learnt that a dispute was prevailing between Padmini and her husband over the birth of the girl, following which she was residing at her father’s place. It is suspected that this could be the reason behind the killing.
A case has been registered and further investigation into the matter is underway, said the police.
