Odisha: Woman critical with 70 pc burn injuries after self-immolation attempt

Dhenkanal, Sept 6: A woman was left battling for life after she reportedly attempted self-immolation over a family dispute in Kantabania area of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Saturday.

The victim has been identified as Sabitri Gochhayat and the incident has been reported from Manpur village under Kantabania police station limits.

According to reports, Sabitri doused herself in petrol and set herself on fire after a heated family dispute. Initially she was rushed to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), and was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as her health condition deteriorated.

Doctors at Angul DHH assessed that Sabitri had sustained around 70 percent burn injuries.

Meanwhile, Kantabania police have registered a case and launched a probe into the incident to ascertain the exact reason which prompted the woman to take the extreme step.
