Bhubaneswar, October 28: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi assured the public on Tuesday that the state government is fully prepared to deal with the impact of Cyclone Montha. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Cyclone Montha, currently situated over the west-central Bay of Bengal and moving north-northwestward, is expected to make landfall near Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, later on Tuesday night. The storm is anticipated to bring heavy rainfall to several districts of Odisha . The IMD has issued advisories warning fishermen to stay away from the sea along the West Bengal coast until Thursday.
Cyclone Montha is now classified as a severe cyclonic storm with wind speeds reaching 90–100 kmph, and gusts potentially peaking at 110 kmph. The IMD's forecast suggests that landfall will occur around midnight on Tuesday near Kakinada. In response, the Andhra Pradesh government has placed all coastal districts on high alert, deploying National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams to manage the emergency response.
Along with Andhra Pradesh, Odisha is bracing for heavy rainfall. The state has already evacuated over 3,000 people, including women and children, from vulnerable areas. Meanwhile, northern Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, has been placed under orange and yellow alerts due to anticipated intense rainfall. Coastal areas in both Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha have already begun experiencing strong winds and heavy rain.
