Odisha experiences rising temperatures alongside localised heavy rainfall activity
Chandbali emerged as the hottest location in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 36.7°C, which stands 4.1°C above the normal range. Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar released its latest Odisha weather update today, detailing clear contrasts in regional weather patterns over the past 24 hours. Nawarangpur experienced the coolest conditions, logging the lowest minimum temperature of 19.0°C. Temperature variations across different districts highlight the shifting local climate conditions.
Significant rainfall in northern districts
Sundargarh district recorded the highest rainfall amount, with the Sundergarh station receiving 52.8 mm of rain. Other areas also saw notable precipitation, including Altuma in Dhenkanal with 35.2 mm and Kamakhya Nagar with 30.2 mm. Korei in Jajpur registered 29.0 mm of rainfall, while Tangarpali in Sundargarh received 28.4 mm. Coastal and southern locations like Akhuapada in Bhadrak and Mahendragarh in Gajapati recorded lighter rainfall amounts of 12.6 mm and 12.4 mm, respectively. Historically, October weather in this region often brings varied precipitation due to withdrawing monsoon currents transitioning into the post-monsoon phase.
Twin City temperature observations
Bhubaneswar weather remained notably warm and dry during this observation period. The capital city recorded a maximum temperature of 35.4°C, which is 3.1°C higher than normal, and a minimum of 24.4°C, with no rainfall reported. Cuttack experienced very similar conditions, reaching a high of 35.0°C and a low of 27.0°C, also recording zero precipitation. Other major towns like Puri reached 36.0°C, while Daringibadi remained relatively cool at 29.5°C. Additional inland locations such as Dhenkanal and Nayagarh also reported high temperatures of 36.3°C and 36.0°C. These figures indicate an ongoing warm spell across the coastal plains following the recent monsoon season.
