Sambalpur, July 7: Acting on a complaint received via Odisha Vigilance’s toll-free helpline 1064, officials from the Vigilance Department today apprehended Dr. Subha Prakash Soren, Block Veterinary Officer (BVO), Rairakhol, and Sri Maheswar Sahu, Programme Assistant (PA), while accepting a bribe of ₹5,000.
According to sources, the complainant—a beneficiary under the Go-Sugam scheme of the Government of Odisha—had constructed a broiler farm in April 2025 and was entitled to a total subsidy of ₹90,000. While the first installment was received, the second phase amounting to ₹54,000 had been pending despite repeated requests.
Dr. Soren allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹5,000 for releasing the remaining subsidy. Left with no alternative, the beneficiary approached the Vigilance Department. Acting swiftly on the complaint, Vigilance officials laid a trap and caught Dr. Soren and Sri Sahu red-handed while accepting the bribe today.
The entire bribe amount has been recovered from their possession and seized as evidence. Following the operation, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to Dr. Soren to investigate possible disproportionate assets.
A case under Sections 7 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered at Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station (Case No.14 dated 06.07.2025). The investigation is currently in progress.
Further details are awaited.
