Kalahandi, May 27: The Odisha vigilance on Monday apprehended the PEO (Panchayat Executive Officer) of Kaniguma panchayat under Th.Rampur block in Kalahandi district for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant.
The accused has been identified as Sanyasi Nayak.
Nayak was caught red handed while accepting a bribe amount of Rs 10,000 from a complainant for processing the Muster Roll and releasing payment for the labourers under the MGNREGA scheme.
The entire bribe amount has been recovered from Nayak and seized by authorities.
Moreover, the authorities have initiated simultaneous searches at three locations associated with Nayak, focusing on the angle of disproportionate assets (DA).
A case pertaining to this matter has been registered at the Koraput Vigilance police station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Investigations are currently underway, with authorities diligently working to uncover further details.
A comprehensive report on the findings of the investigation is awaited.
