Bhubaneswar, Sep 7: Odisha Vigilance officials today intercepted a Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) from Nuapada district with Rs 1.32 lakh cash, near Khordha Hospital Square while he was en route to Bhubaneswar.
The interception was based on reliable information about possible corrupt activities.
Bijay Kumar Behuria, the MVI was traveling in a private vehicle when he was stopped by the vigilance team.
Upon inspection, cash amounting to Rs. 1.32 lakhs was discovered in his possession. The money is suspected to be ill-gotten cash collected as "PC" (presumably percentage commission) from different sources, said a Vigilance statement.
When questioned by the vigilance officials, Behuria could not provide a satisfactory explanation for the large sum of money, leading to its seizure along with the vehicle, it said.
Following the interception, Odisha Vigilance launched an extensive search operation at five different locations associated with Behuria to investigate from the Disproportionate Assets (DA) angle.
These searches aim to uncover further evidence that could shed light on the source of the cash and any additional assets that may have been acquired through corrupt practices.
