Bhubaneswar, Aug 2: The Odisha Vigilance Department has made substantial recoveries during a search at the rented residence of Sarita Barik, an Assistant Commissioner of State Tax in Bhubaneswar, following her arrest for accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000.
The operation led to the discovery of cash totaling Rs 1.45 lakh, 222 grams of gold, and bank deposits amounting to approximately Rs 60 lakh. In addition, documents related to property purchases in Bhubaneswar and jewellery bills were also seized.
Barik has been taken into custody and is scheduled to be presented before the Bhubaneswar Vigilance Court today. The investigation is ongoing, with more details expected to emerge as the probe progresses.
