Bhubaneswar, Aug 4: The Odisha Vigilance Department on Monday arrested Golap Chandra Hansdah, Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) posted in Boudh district, for possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The arrest follows a series of coordinated searches at multiple locations linked to Hansdah, which led to the discovery of a multi-storey building, 44 land plots, 1 kg of gold (including two 50-gram gold biscuits), over 2 kg of silver, cash exceeding Rs 2.38 lakh, and bank deposits amounting to over Rs 1.34 crore.
Investigators also found evidence of Rs 40 lakh spent on his daughter's medical education, along with a personal diary containing records of alleged benami transactions. Officials stated that Hansdah failed to account for these assets satisfactorily.
A case has been registered under Balasore Vigilance Police Station (Case No. 7/2025). Hansdah will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Baripada.
The vigilance department confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with further asset valuation and legal scrutiny underway.
This arrest marks another significant step in Odisha Vigilance’s ongoing efforts to tackle corruption and asset misappropriation in government service.
