Jajpur, Aug 1: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Friday apprehended the Senior Revenue Assistant (SRA) of Vyasanagar Tahasil Office in Jajpur district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,500.
The accused official has been identified as Hemanta kumar Terai.
As per reports, Terai had demanded and taking a bribe of Rs 4,500, which is the second installment of a total demand of Rs 5,000 from a complainant to fix up a date for the demarcation of his land.
The complainant, who had been under pressure from Terai for several days, had already paid Rs. 500 a few days earlier. Despite the partial payment, the accused continued to coerce the individual to pay the remaining amount of Rs. 4,500 for setting a date for the demarcation of land.
Left with no option, the complainant reached out to the Vigilance authorities, leading to a swift and coordinated operation.
Based on the information, Vigilance officers laid a trap and nabbed Terai while taking the bribe of Rs 4,500. The entire bribe money has been recovered from his possession and seized.
Following the apprehension, the Vigilance officials launched simultaneous searches at three locations associated with Terai to investigate the Disproportionate Asset (DA) angle.
Further investigation into the matter was underway and more detailed are awaited.
