Jagatsinghpur, June 26: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday apprehended the Accountant in Block Education Office (BEO) in Kujanga of Jagatsinghpur district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.
The accused official has been identified as Suryakanta Swain.
As per reports, Swain had demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a complainant for billing the house building advance of Rs 1,50,000 in his favor.
However, the said house building advance was earlier sanctioned by the competent government authority in favor of the complainant, but Swain demanded the bribe for preparing bill.
After being repeatedly harassed by Swain for the bribe, the complainant, left out with no other options, reported the matter to Odisha Vigilance authorities.
Based on the information, Vigilance officers laid a trap and nabbed Swain inside his office room while demanding and taking bribe Rs 5,000.
The entire bribe money has been recovered from his possession and seized.
Following the apprehension, the Vigilance officials launched simultaneous searches at two locations associated with Swain to investigate the Disproportionate Asset (DA) angle.
Further investigation into the matter was underway and more detailed are awaited.
