Dhenkanal, July 13: In a tragic incident, at least two persons died after reportedly consuming spurious liquor in Rasol area of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Manmatha Samal and Prafula Samal from Bampha village, both estimated to be between 45 and 55 years old.
As per reports, the incident has been reported from Bampha village under Rasol police limits in the district after Manmatha and Prafula consumed country-made liquor on Friday afternoon. Shortly afterward, they reportedly began experiencing chest pain and difficulty breathing.
Thereafter, both were admitted to Hindol Medical Centre for treatment but unfortunately died while undergoing treatment.
Though the exact reason behind the deaths is yet to be confirmed, toxic liquor is suspected to be reason.
Earlier in June, two youths from Bhubaneswar’s Laxmisagar locality died, and five others were hospitalized in critical condition after consuming suspected spurious liquor sold at a store in Old Station Bazaar on Cuttack-Puri Road.
In response to these incidents, the Khordha Excise Superintendent of Police (SP) and his team sealed off a liquor shop in the state capital.
The liquor outlet, which had been officially closed, was accused of illegally selling counterfeit alcohol.
