Sambalpur, August 12: A wild dog, also known as Dhole, was spotted by a group of tourists during a jungle safari in the Debrigarh Sanctuary on Saturday afternoon.
The tourists got surprised and thrilled when the wild dog crossed the path near the deer and bear zone around 3.45 pm and some of them took snap of the animal on their phones, capturing the movement of the endangered species.
“Kamalakanta Majhi, a tourist from Sundargarh, captured the movement of the animal and sent to the sanctuary authorities. We checked the video and it was a wild dog. Majhi recorded a video when it was just about 20 metres away,’ said Hirakud wildlife DFO Anshu Pragyan Das.
Camera traps installed in Debrigarh had captured a pair of wild dogs in October last year. The Schedule-2 species was spotted in the sanctuary after seven years, she added.
The availability of abundant food and water during the monsoon has led the wild dogs to explore new areas within the forest, including the safari zone, said Safari driver Subodh Bhue.
