Bhubaneswar, Dec 5: Odisha tops the list in detecting corruption related to disproportionate assets. The National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) report revealed it on Tuesday.
According to the report, the Odisha Vigilance Directorate has topped among all states in the country in detection and registration of disproportionate assets (DA) cases in 2022.
As per recently published data of the NCRB, at least 372 DA cases were registered in the country during the year. Of those, Odisha accounted for 85 cases.
Similarly, with the registration of 84 corruption cases on the allegation of criminal misconduct (misappropriation of government funds), Odisha Vigilance has bagged 3rd place in the country.
It has also secured 3rd position by filing chargesheets in 321 cases during the year. In those cases, the Odisha Vigilance charge-sheeted against as many as 551 accused persons, indulged in corruption, which was 3rd highest in the country.
Besides, with 90 cases ending in conviction, Odisha Vigilance ranked 3rd in the country. On the parameter of a number of persons convicted in the year, Odisha Vigilance was 2nd among all Anti-Corruption Agencies of the states with 124 accused persons convicted for corruption-related offences in 2022.
Apart from it, Odisha ranked the 3rd highest in taking proactive action of dismissal/removal of public servants from government service in 2022. At the same time, Odisha was the 2nd highest in the country in awarding major punishments to accused persons involved in Vigilance cases in the year, the report read.
