Bhubaneswar, Aug 01: Odisha would procure potatoes from Uttar Pradesh to reduce dependency on West Bengal for the tuber, informed Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare minister Krushna Chandra Patra today.
After holding a meeting, Patra said a committee of state government would soon visit UP to study the market condition and other issues.
He said the import of potatoes from West Bengal will be stopped gradually as TMC goons are creating trouble and extorting money on the border.
Notably, the price of potatoes has skyrocketed in the state after the staple food could not be transported from West Bengal. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also held a meeting with his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee over the issue.
