Odisha to offer 5kg LPG cylinders at petrol pumps for easier access

Bhubaneswar, Ap 9: In a move to make LPG gas more accessible, Odisha will now provide 5 kg cylinders at petrol pumps across the state. The announcement was made by Minister Krushna Chandra Patra during a press conference on Wednesday.

Minister Patra confirmed that the smaller LPG cylinders will be available in ample quantities under the Central Government’s Free Trade LPG Scheme. This initiative is aimed at meeting the needs of households requiring smaller amounts of gas, particularly in urban and semi-urban areas where full-sized cylinders may not be necessary. The gas will be supplied by three major national gas companies.

Purchasing a 5kg cylinder will require only a valid identification card. The cost of a new 5kg cylinder will be Rs 1,537, while refilling will be priced at Rs 593.

The Minister also emphasized that refills will only be allowed in cylinders issued by the respective gas companies, and other cylinders will not be eligible for refilling.

By involving petrol pumps in distribution, this initiative is expected to streamline LPG delivery and improve accessibility, particularly in densely populated areas where traditional gas supply may be limited.
