Bhubaneswar, Aug 31: In order to ensure strict enforcement on illegal sale of liquor, the Excise Department has decided to open 25 new excise stations in Odisha.
Three excise stations will come up in Ganjam, Balasore and Berhampur, two excise stations in Cuttack, Mayurbhanj and Nayagarh and one each in Jagatsinghpur Bhadrak, Jajpur, Bhubaneswar, Khordha, Puri, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Rourkela, said Joint Excise Commissioner Somanath Majhi in a letter to Superintendent of Excise of 16 districts.
Meanwhile, in a recent crackdown on illegal liquor trade, the Excise Department conducted raids across Odisha over the last eleven days.
As a result, 2,878 cases have been registered, and 1,607 individuals have been arrested.
The department seized 148,225 liters of liquor, 1,369,380 kg of liquor manufacturing substances, and 159 vehicles used in illegal liquor operations, according to officials from the Excise Department.
