Bhubaneswar, July 19: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that the state aims to double milk production to 165 lakh liters per day by 2036 through the Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana. Under the scheme, 10,000 high-yielding breed cows will be provided to farmers.
At a signing event between NDDB and OMFED in Cuttack, CM Majhi highlighted plans to boost the state’s cow-based economy. NDDB will initially supply 3,000–4,000 high-yield cows like Gir and Sahiwal. A biogas plant will also be set up with NDDB's support.
CM Majhi distributed 22 new milk tankers and inaugurated milk powder packaging machines, worth a total of ₹11 crore. He noted Odisha’s current daily milk output is 72 lakh liters, to reach 274 lakh liters by 2047.
OMFED's dairy product range now includes paneer, ice cream, and sweets. It also signed an MoU with the Shree Jagannath Temple to supply 30 MT of ghee. Farmers will also benefit from biogas production using cow dung, further enhancing income.
Over 15 lakh cattle rearers will benefit from the scheme, with 70% financial support from the government. Already, ₹71 crore has been distributed to 3 lakh farmers in 2024–25. New initiatives like the Gomata Yojana and Prani Kalyan Yojana will support cow protection and goshalas.
