Bhubaneswar, Aug 5: The Odisha government has announced plans to develop 835 high-quality primary schools across the state as part of the first phase of its flagship Godabarish Mishra Adarsha Prathamik Vidyalaya scheme. These model primary schools will act as feeder institutions for nearby high schools, aiming to strengthen the state's education system from the grassroots level.
Each school will receive an investment of ₹7 crore for development. Eligible primary schools must have more than 100 students, run classes from pre-primaryup to Class 8, and occupy more than two acres of land.
At a recent review meeting, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the importance of establishing one model school in each gram panchayat headquarters, taking into account geographical factors. He called for the delivery of national-level quality education tailored to Odisha’s socio-economic context and directed officials to ensure the provision of free transportation for students in remote and inaccessible areas.
The Chief Minister also urged the selection of schools with adequate land so they can be upgraded into high schools in the future. He instructed education department officials to focus on improving student outcomes by integrating technology and adopting best practices in teacher recruitment.
Further, CM Majhi highlighted the need to modernize teaching methods, enhance infrastructure, and promote community involvement, including parents, alumni, and local stakeholders.
A major goal of the initiative is to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy so students achieve basic learning milestones by Class 3, in line with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020).
The new model schools will promote a diverse curriculum that includes STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), vocational training, and experiential learning. The initiative aims to foster creativity, critical thinking, and life skills, supporting the holistic development of Odisha’s students.
