Imphal, Dec 19: An earthquake of magnitude 2.9 struck Ukhrul in Manipur late Friday night, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The tremor occurred at 2:58 am IST on December 19, 2025, at a depth of approximately 35 kilometres.
The earthquake's epicentre was recorded at a latitude of 25.19° N and longitude of 94.22° E, situated in Ukhrul, Manipur. The NCS confirmed the details in a post on X, stating: “EQ of M: 2.9, On: 19/12/2025 02:58:00 IST, Lat: 25.19 N, Long: 94.22 E, Depth: 35 Km, Location: Ukhrul, Manipur.”

On December 18, a magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck Myanmar at a depth of 100 km.
On December 17, a magnitude 3.8 earthquake occurred in Tibet, with a depth of 90 km.
A magnitude 3.4 earthquake was recorded in Leh, Ladakh, on the same day, at a shallow depth of 10 km.
The National Centre for Seismology has not reported any casualties or major damage from the recent tremors. However, the frequency of seismic activity in the region has drawn attention.
