Bhubaneswar, July 29: The Commissionerate Police today claimed to have arrested six persons in connection with illegal arm trade in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
Five pistols have been seized from their possession, said police.
The accused have been identified as Rashmiranjan Swain, Utkal Keshari Khuntia, Krushna Chandra Jena, Chiranjivi Jena, Mohammad Samser alias Hama and SK Ajharudin alias Aju.
According to the report, The accused were engaged in the trafficking, sale, and possession of illegal firearms for multiple illicit activities such as cattle trading, sand business, extortion, and vandalism, aimed at generating quick profits through intimidation. Operating primarily in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, and Kendrapada districts, the gang was led by Swain, with Khuntia as his trusted associate. Firearms were sourced from contacts in Munger, Bihar, and distributed throughout Odisha.
