Kendrapara, August 22: Six persons have been arrested, including a man and his two sons, for killing of a 36-year-old Dalit tractor driver on August 14, Kendrapara Superintendent of Police Siddharth Kataria informed in a press conference on Thursday.
According to police, the deceased identified as Mantu Malik of Nikirai village was pushed into the Birupa River from Indupur bridge following a dispute on last Thursday.
All the arrested are residents of Krishnanagar village under the Bari police jurisdiction in Jajpur district. They were absconded after committing the crime and police arrested them conducting raids at their hideouts in various locations in Kendrapara, Jajpur, and Khordha.
Nikirai police station IIC Sanjay Kumar Mallick said Mantu Malik had assaulted one Tikili Jena on August 14. Later, Jena called his two sons, Banti Jena and Lituna Jena. The trio then assaulted Mantu, took him to their village in Krishnanagar and pushed him into the Birupa River.
Mantu's body was recovered from the Brahmani River near Jagannathpur, under the Pattamundai police jurisdiction, the following day, according to police.
All the accused have confessed to their crime during interrogation. They were booked under Section 103, 3(5) of the BNS, and produced before the SDJM court in Kendrapara, that remanded them to jail custody, said police.
