Odisha: SIT to probe Khallikote pre-poll violence

Khallikote, May 17: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) will probe the pre-poll violence that claimed one BJP worker’s life in Khallikote area of Odisha’s Ganjam district on May 15.

The SIT has been directed to submit the charge sheet within 30 days and arrest the culprits involved at the earliest.

RK Sharma, Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters), has been appointed to camp at Chatrapur. He will oversee the investigation and ensure law and order situation in the area.

Notably, the scuffle took place between the ruling BJD and BJP workers over putting up election campaign posters at Srikrushnasaranapur village late on Wednesday (May 15) night.

Several persons, including the deceased identified as Dilip Pahan of the village, sustained serious injuries in the fight.

They were rushed to the nearby hospital in Khallikote and were later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur as their health condition deteriorated. However, Dilip succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had condemned the act of violence.
