Odisha schools selected for national awards under SHVR 2025–26

Bhubaneswar, June 22: School & Mass Education Department today informed that several schools have been recognized under the Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2025–26, a pioneering national initiative aimed at promoting safe, sustainable, and child-friendly learning environments.

The SHVR framework assesses schools on key parameters such as sanitation and hygiene, access to safe drinking water, greenery and biodiversity, waste management, and climate-resilient practices. The initiative encourages schools to adopt environmentally responsible practices while ensuring the well-being of students.

Schools across Odisha demonstrated exemplary commitment towards strengthening WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) facilities and fostering eco-friendly campus environments. In a significant achievement, 20 schools from Odisha were nominated for national-level evaluation, out of which 10 schools have been selected for National Awards and Recognitions under SHVR 2025–26.

The recognition reflects the collective efforts of teachers, students, school management committees, and local communities in integrating sustainable practices into the daily functioning of schools. Their dedication has enabled Odisha to emerge as a leading state in advancing environmental stewardship and climate resilience in the education sector.

At the national level, 191 schools from 29 States and Union Territories have been selected for awards under SHVR 2025–26. Each award-winning school will receive a cash award of 1 lakh, a certificate of recognition, and an opportunity to participate in a three-day exposure visit to a designated state to learn and share best practices.
