Bhubaneswar, October 4: Vigilance sleuths on Monday nabbed Kehsari Nagar Circle Revenue Inspector (RI) on charges of taking bribe of Rs 5,000 from an applicant for facilitating issuance of legal heir.
The accused has been identified as Niranjan Singh, Revenue Inspector of Keshari Nagar Circle, Unit-VI, Bhubaneswar.
According to Vigilance, Singh was apprehended while demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 from an applicant to process and forward the enquiry report for facilitating issuance of legal heir certificate in his favour following his death of mother and younger brother.
The applicant had applied for legal heir through online mode on September 9. He had submitted all necessary documents as per the procedure during the application process. Following submitting application, the applicant met the RI three-four times and requested him to forward the enquiry report to the competent authority to get the certificate.
It was alleged that the accused Revenue Inspector was delaying the process and demanded bribe Rs 5,000 to forward the application online to the officer concerned.
Upset over the undue approach of a government servant, the complainant approached the vigilance authorities. Accordingly, a trap was laid today and a team of Vigilance sleuths caught Singh red-handed while taking bribe of Rs 5,000.
Following the trap, searches underway at two locations linked to Singh to investigate possible possession of disproportionate assets.
A case has been registered against Singh at the Bhubaneswar Vigilance police station under P.C. (Amendment) Act, 2018.
