Cuttack, Feb 14: A lady Accountant has been held in Odisha’s Cuttack on Saturday for allegedly siphoning Rs 40 lakh from the Advocates’ Welfare Funds.

The accused has been identified as Swarnaprabha Behera, Accountant of 4 Bar Associations in Cuttack.

Acting on a complaint lodged by the Bar members, the Lalbagh Police nabbed Behera today who was in the run for months.

According to report, Swarnaprabha was appointed as Accountant of 4 Cuttack Bar Associations and dealing with the Advocates’ Welfare Funds. Meanwhile, she allegedly embezzled Rs 40 lakh from the funds. On being aware of the irregularity, the Bar members moved police with lodging a complaint with the Lalbagh Police. However, the accused remained out of screen as she came to know about the development.

Behera was sent to judicial remand after interrogation and other legal formalities. Further investigation is underway, said the Police.
