Bhubaneswar, March 13: A police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was caught red-handed by the Vigilance department while allegedly accepting a bribe in connection with an illegal liquor trade. The accused has been identified as Arupa Nanda Das, posted at Bada Gaon Police Station.

According to reports, the ASI was demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹25,000 to allow the illegal liquor business to operate. The money was being taken from Ranjan Das, a resident of the Bada Gaon area.

The transaction reportedly took place at a pan shop near the Bada Gaon bus stand. Acting on a complaint, a special team of Rourkela Vigilance conducted a raid at the spot and caught the officer while accepting the bribe.

The Vigilance team recovered ₹25,000 from the possession of the ASI and immediately placed him under arrest. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
