Bhubaneswar, Aug 7: The by-election for the one Rajya Sabha seat from Odisha, which fell vacant after the resignation of BJD leader Mamata Mohanta, will be held on September 3, 2024.
A notification in this regard was issued today by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
As per the notification, the last date for filling of nominations is August 21 and the papers will be scrutinized on August 22. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is August 27.
While the voting is scheduled to be held between 9 AM to 4 PM on September 3, the counting of votes will be done on the same day at 5 PM.
Notably, Mamata Mohanta had resigned from the Rajya Sabha as well as from the primary membership of the BJD on July 31, 2024. On the next day, she joined the BJP.
Mohanta was elected to the upper house in April 2020 and her tenure was scheduled to end in April 2026.
