Bhubaneswar, May 4: Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati announced that the Raj Bhavan is set to go fully solar-powered, with plans to install a 400 kW solar power plant in the pipeline.

At present, a 150 kW solar unit is already functioning on the premises.

He stated that the solar power expansion at Odisha Raj Bhavan is expected to be completed within the next three to four months.

“Once the new plant becomes operational, the Raj Bhavan’s monthly electricity bill—currently around Rs 3 lakh—will be reduced to zero,” he said.

The initiative is part of a broader vision to transform the governor’s residence into a net-zero energy campus.

Reaffirming his commitment to environmental sustainability, Governor Kambhampati also announced the adoption of electric vehicles at the Raj Bhavan.

“We have introduced a fleet of Made-in-India EVs, which includes four official cars and electric two-wheelers for staff members,” he said.

The governor also encouraged the public to embrace solar energy by taking advantage of various central government schemes. He highlighted the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which provides significant subsidies for installing rooftop solar systems in homes, and the PM KUSUM Yojana, designed to support farmers in setting up solar-powered pump sets for irrigation.

Kambhampati emphasized that such initiatives are crucial for making green energy both accessible and affordable.

He also urged citizens to make use of these schemes to lessen their reliance on conventional power sources.
