Bhubaneswar, Sept 14: Amid bird flu scare in Odisha, poultry traders on Friday hosted a free chicken feast in Bhubaneswar city for over a thousand people to aware that properly-cooked chicken is safe to consume.
The Poultry Traders’ Association of Odisha distributed biryani, pakora and other chicken dishes prepared from chicken among people free of cost to do away with the misconceptions regarding bird flu.
“We have hosted the free chicken feast to spread awareness among people and demonstrate the safety of consuming properly-cooked chicken items,” said association secretary Jyotikanta Mohapatra.
Several chicken dishes were served to over 1000 people in the awareness programme. People are avoiding chicken consumption due to misinformation that has severely affected the poultry industry in Odisha, he added.
Chicken consumption has declined by 80 to 90 per cent in the recent days following reports of bird flu outbreak near Puri and on the city outskirts. It has affected livelihood of more than 12 lakh people associated with it directly and indirectly, informed the poultry traders.
