Sambalpur, June 4: In a shocking turn of events, a police constable of Bareipali police station in Odisha’s Sambalpur has been arrested for allegedly attempting to rape his 14-year-old neice.
The accused constable has been identified as Biranchi Munda.
As per reports, the constable took the minor girl from Adibasipada to a secluded place, claiming they would watch a Shital Sasthi yatra procession, and then tried to sexually assault her.
However, the minor-girl managed to escape from his clutches and courageously narrated her ordeal before her family.
Thereafter, her family members and local residents lodged a formal complaint with the police.
Based on the complaint, police swung into action and arrested the constable. He was later produced in the court.
A case has been registered against the accused and further investigation into the matter was underway, said the police.
