New Delhi, November 17: The Election Commission of India on Monday announced the commencement of a 'Special Revision' of electoral rolls in Assam, clarifying that this does not involve a Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

In an official directive issued to Assam’s Chief Electoral Officer, the Election Commission confirmed that the qualifying date for the Special Revision will be January 1, 2026. This step aims to update the voter list for the state.

Sources explained that the Special Revision lies between the routine annual summary revision and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in terms of its scope and procedures.
