Berhampur, Nov 20: Ganjam district administration has decided to start paddy procurement for the ongoing kharif season from December 29.
This was announced by Collector Dibya Jyoti Parida at a district level meeting of employees of cooperative societies, farmers, mill owners, held on Thursday
Besides, the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy has also been increased for the benefit of the farmers. The cost of one quintal paddy has been set at Rs 2183 and that of A-grade quality at Rs 2203. The MSP has been hiked Rs 143 for general paddy and Rs 137 for A-grade, compare tp last year.
The district administration has initially set a target to collect 45,67,000 quintal paddy in 2023-24 kharif season.
As many as 469 paddy collection centres will be opened in 22 blocks and 365 PACS, 103 women SHGs and one pani panchayat have been entrusted with the task of procurement.
As many as 1,46,541 registered farmers will sale their paddy at the 469 collection centres, including 103 sharecroppers.
