Odisha opts for gradation of hospitals and medical colleges, best medical college to get Rs 3 crore

Bhubaneswar, May 25: Odisha government has decided to grade all medical colleges and hospitals, DHHs, SDHs & CHCs functioning as first referral hospitals by the Health department based on defined parameters. Officials said that the prime objective of the gradation system is to improve patient satisfaction through bringing teamwork, technology, transparency and transformation of the healthcare service delivery system in a time bound manner. “In order to assess the performance of public health facilities in terms of their functioning and quality of care and to create a healthy competitive spirit among the public health facilities, after careful consideration. Govt. have been pleased to approve that all Medical Colleges & Hospitals, District Head Quarter Hospitals, all SDHs and those CHCs functioning as First Referral Units shall be graded annually (every Financial Year) based on defined parameters,” read a notification of the Health department. The top performing health facilities will be felicitated by the Chief Minister while cash award will also be given to Rogi Kalyan Samitis (RKS) of winning health facilities. The top performing medical college will get Rs 3 crore while the second and third ranked medical college will be awarded Rs 1.5 crore and Rs 1 crore respectively. Similarly for DHHs the winner will get Rs 1 crore while the second and third ranked DHH will be awarded Rs 50 lakh and Rs 30 lakh respectively. Besides, for SDHs and PHC the winner will get Rs 50 lakh while the second and third ranked facility will get Rs 25 lakh and Rs 15 lakh respectively.
