Cuttack, February 19: With the death of a youth in firing,tension erupted outside the Madhupatna Police Station in Cuttack on Thursday.

Kin of the deceased with locals staged a protest by placing the youth’s body in front of the police station, and demanded stringent action against the cultprits.

As the tension escalated, the Police appealed the mob to cooperate in the investigation and assured to nab the accused soon.

In another incident of daylight crime, miscreants shot a young man dead in Cuttack City on Wednesday.

The incident took place at the Nuasahi Press Colony under the Madhupatna Police limit where a group of friends were arranging a feast.

The victim was identified as Soumya Ranjan alias Rinku Jena.

According to report, a gang of miscreants followed Rinku Jena and fired shots on him all of a sudden, As a result, Jena sustained critical injuries in his body.

As the miscreants fled the scene after firing, locals rescued Jena and rushed him to the SCB Medical College & Hospital for resuscitation. However, Jena succumed to his injuries during treatment.

On being informed, the police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation into the matter. Subsequently, the victim’s body was seized and sent for postmortem examinations.

A team of police is quizzing the deceased’s friends who gathered for the feast,for inputs on the crime and reach at the miscreants.

Investigation is underway. The intension of the miscreants that led to the firing is yet unclear, said the police.
