Historic Buddhist relics reunited after century at grand exposition

In a landmark event for cultural history and Buddhist devotees worldwide, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a significant international exposition titled "The Light & the Lotus: Relics of the Awakened One." Held at the Rai Pithora Cultural Complex in New Delhi, this exhibition showcases the Sacred Piprahwa Relics of Lord Buddha, marking a historic reunification of these artifacts.

This grand display is particularly special because it brings together gem relics that have been repatriated to India after a long gap of 127 years. The exhibition offers visitors a rare glimpse into ancient history, featuring reliquaries and other archaeological treasures unearthed during the original excavations in 1898, as well as subsequent findings from the 1971-1975 digs at the Piprahwa site.

Sharing his thoughts on social media, PM Modi expressed deep appreciation for the efforts involved in bringing these artifacts home. He emphasized that the event is not just a display of history, but a bridge connecting today's youth with India's rich spiritual culture.

"This Exposition brings together the Piprahwa relics repatriated after more than a century," the Prime Minister noted. He further highlighted that the collection includes authentic materials preserved by the National Museum in New Delhi and the Indian Museum in Kolkata.

The Prime Minister urged citizens to visit the exhibition, stating that it aligns with the nation's commitment to popularizing the noble teachings of Bhagwan Buddha. By showcasing the Sacred Piprahwa Relics, the government aims to deepen the public's bond with their heritage.

Since opening, the exposition has attracted significant attention from historians, cultural enthusiasts, and followers of Buddhism from India and overseas. It stands as a testament to the country's dedication to preserving and celebrating the legacy of the Awakened One.
