Latest Apple budget flagship brings high-end performance to Indian buyers

Apple has officially broadened its latest smartphone family by introducing the iPhone 17e to the Indian market. Positioned as the entry-level gateway to the 17-series, this device aims to capture the interest of users seeking premium performance without the top-tier price tag. Pre-orders are set to go live on March 4, with the official retail launch following shortly after on March 11.

Pricing and Storage Variants in India

Indian consumers can choose between two primary storage configurations for this new release. The base model, featuring 256GB of internal space, is priced at Rs 64,900. For those requiring more room for apps and media, the 512GB version is available for Rs 84,900. To provide a sleek look, Apple is offering the handset in three distinct matte finishes: black, white, and a new soft pink.

Core Performance and Display Tech

Powering this smartphone is the cutting-edge A19 chip, manufactured using a sophisticated 3nm process. While it shares the same brain as its more expensive siblings, it utilizes a 4-core GPU and 8GB of RAM. This setup ensures fluid daily multitasking and high-speed efficiency. On the front, users will find a 6.1-inch OLED screen. To maintain its budget-friendly status, this model sticks with a traditional 60Hz refresh rate and the classic notch design rather than the Dynamic Island found on the standard iPhone 17.

Photography and Battery Life

Imaging is handled by a capable 48-megapixel Fusion rear camera. This single-lens system is surprisingly versatile, supporting 4K video capture and optical image stabilization. For selfies, a 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera is tucked into the front notch. Regarding endurance, the device is rated for up to 26 hours of video playback. It supports convenient 15W MagSafe wireless charging alongside 20W wired fast charging.

Key Differences from Standard Models

Choosing the "e" variant involves a few trade-offs compared to the regular iPhone 17, which starts at Rs 82,900. While the 17e uses Wi-Fi 6 and the C1X 5G modem, the standard model upgrades to Wi-Fi 7 and a faster 120Hz ProMotion display. Additionally, the standard version offers a dual-camera array and more RAM, making it the preferred choice for power users and mobile photographers.
