Chilika, May 29: Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev, who was arrested on charges of tampering with an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) during the third phase of polling in Odisha on May 25, has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

According to reports, Jagdev's health deteriorated in jail, prompting his admission to the hospital. Sources indicate that he is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU of the Medicine ward at SCB.

While Jagdev faces legal proceedings, villagers of Kaunripatana under Bolagarh block in Khordha district have voiced support, claiming that the allegations against him are politically motivated.
The arrest of Jagdev has sparked outrage in the area, with locals expressing resentment and labeling it as a conspiracy by the ruling party.

The incident unfolded on Saturday when the MLA, accompanied by his wife, went to a polling booth to cast his vote. Allegations arose that he toppled the EVM, leading to his detention by the police based on a complaint filed by the presiding officer. Jagdev was apprehended from Begunia and subsequently taken to the reserve police camp.
