Bhubaneswar, May 17: In a proactive move to streamline the registration of labourers, Odisha Labour and State Employees’ Insurance Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia on Friday directed officials to set up a dedicated help desk at the Nayapalli Labour Haat.
The initiative is aimed at making the registration process more accessible and ensuring that more workers can quickly obtain labour cards. These cards are essential for accessing key government welfare schemes, including educational support, maternity and marriage benefits, and assistance in the event of death or funeral expenses.
During interaction with laborers and workers at Nayapali Labour Haat today, Minister Singkhuntia noted that a significant number of labourers are still awaiting registration. He instructed labour officers to expedite the acceptance of applications and take immediate steps to bring eligible workers under the government’s welfare umbrella.
Following his visit to Nayapalli, the Minister also reviewed conditions at the multipurpose workers’ shelter in Dumduma. During the inspection, he interacted with the residents and assessed their living arrangements.
Labour Commissioner Indramani Tripathi, Joint Labour Commissioner (Bhubaneswar) Pranab Kumar Patra, and other senior officials accompanied the Minister during the visits.
