New Delhi, February 11: Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, announced on Wednesday that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members in the Lok Sabha would be filing a privilege notice against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for "misleading the House and making baseless statements." Rijiju criticized Gandhi, who serves as the Leader of the Opposition, for what he called "false allegations" against the government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking to the media, Rijiju stated, "We are going to file a privilege notice against Rahul Gandhi for misleading the House and making baseless statements. There are clear procedures in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha that members must follow when making serious charges against another member. Such allegations require a formal notice and substantiation."

He further added, "I have requested that Rahul Gandhi be called to the floor of the House to authenticate his statements. He has made false and unfounded claims against the government and the Prime Minister, including alleging that the Prime Minister has sold India’s interests. On what grounds has he made such a claim? He has also leveled a serious accusation against Hardeep Singh Puri without following proper procedure."

Rijiju also condemned Rahul Gandhi for leaving the House immediately after delivering his speech during the debate on the Union Budget for 2026-27. He accused the Congress leader of avoiding accountability after making "lies and allegations." "It is unfortunate that we do not have someone with a serious character in the role of Leader of the Opposition. Rahul Gandhi repeatedly leaves the House after making unfounded statements, never staying to hear the government's response," Rijiju said.

The Minister affirmed that while the BJP would address these allegations publicly, they would also file a formal notice in Parliament. "Rahul Gandhi has promised to authenticate his claims, but I know he cannot because he lied," Rijiju concluded. He also reminded Gandhi that "no one can sell or buy this country, and no one can even think of doing so." Rijiju emphasized that all misleading statements made by the Congress leader would be rectified.
