Paralakhemundi, Mar 13: In a gruesome incident, a man was allegedly stabbed to death during a wedding procession in Mohana area of Odisha’s Gajapati district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Prashant Pradhan and the incident has been reported from Chandragiri village under Mohana police limits in the district.
As per reports, Prashant had participated in a wedding procession when the accused, identified as Srihari Pradhan, stabbed him with a knife and fled the spot.
In the attack, Prashant sustained critical injuries. Thereafter, some locals rescued him and rushed to the Chandragiri Community Health Centre (CHC) where he succumbed to the injuries during treatment.
Meanwhile, tension ran high at the spot as irate villagers torched the house of the accused. They also blocked NH-326 demanding compensation for Prashant’s family, affecting vehicular movement.
Though the exact reason behind the killing is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that it might be fallout of past enmity.
Upon getting the information, police arrived at the spot and pacified the agitators. The cops have also seized the deceased’s body and sent it for post-mortem.
A probe has been launched into the matter and efforts are on to trace the accused, said the police.
