Cuttack, Nov 12: A tragic incident unfolded in the Naraj area of Cuttack district in Odisha on Sunday, as a man lost his life while attempting to rescue his eight-year-old son from the Kathajodi River.
The deceased, identified as Saroj Kumar Sahoo, hailed from Teli Sahi in the Naraj area under the Baranga police limts in Cuttack district.
According to sources, Saroj, a 45-year-old electrician, noticed his son in distress while they were bathing, as the child was being swept away by the river's current. In a valiant effort to save his son, Saroj plunged into the water. However, he became trapped in quicksand. Fortunately, his son was able to escape the water's grasp, aided by a saree thrown by women present at the scene.
Local residents managed to rescue Saroj from the river and rushed him to a nearby hospital. Tragically, despite their efforts, doctors declared him 'brought dead' upon arrival.
Following the necessary legal procedures, the police handed over Saroj's body to his grieving family members.
