Kalahandi, July 5: In a shocking incident at Palaspani village in Dharamgarh block of Odisha's Kalahandi district, a married man died and his paramour is in critical condition in an apparent suicide attempt reportedly over their extra-marital affair.
The deceased has been identified as Tulasiram Naik and the woman Sunita Bodkia, who happens to be his sister-in-law, is currently undergoing treatment.
According to reports, Tulasiram had been married to Sunita's sister in the past. However, Tulasiram and Sunita, both married to others, developed a relationship several years ago.
On Tuesday night, the couple eloped, prompting their families to convene a meeting to address the situation. During the meeting, the pair excused themselves for a discussion and consumed poison.
They were promptly taken to the Sub-Divisional Hospital (SDH) in Dharamgarh for treatment. Later, due to worsening health conditions, they were transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Bhawanipatna town.
Unfortunately, Tulasiram passed away during treatment.
Upon receiving the information, the police arrived, seized the body, and subsequently sent it for post-mortem examination.
Further investigations into the incident are underway.
