Odisha: LoP Naveen Patnaik directs BJD MLAs to monitor govt depts. for irregularities

Bhubaneswar, July 17: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik has assigned party MLAs the responsibility of closely monitoring the functioning of various government departments and raising their voices in the assembly if they detect any irregularities by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.

In a letter issued on Wednesday, the party outlined the specific departments assigned to each MLA for oversight. "The following departments are allotted to the Hon’ble MLAs of BJD for close monitoring, Assembly interventions, and other issues relating to the departments," the letter read.

Former Minister and Athgarh MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain has been tasked with overseeing the Revenue and Disaster Management department. Senior leader and former speaker Pramila Mallik will monitor the Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water and Parliamentary Affairs departments. Ghasipura MLA Badri Narayan Patra will keep an eye on the Women and Child Development department.

This initiative involves 51 MLAs, including the Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, representing the BJD in the state assembly. The move aims to ensure that government departments function transparently and efficiently, holding the BJP government accountable for any discrepancies.
