Puri, Apr 2: Tension flared at Helipad Square on Puri-Konark Road after a biker died when he came in contact with a 33KV live wire hanging from an electric pole.
The deceased has been identified as Bhaskar Behera, President of Chandrabhaga Traders’ Association.
As per reports, Behera was going to his hotel on his bike when he came in contact with the live wire leading to his death on the spot.
Behera’s death triggered massive public outrage in the locality as irate locals resorted to road blockage on Puri-Konark Road.
Repeated requests have been made to the Energy Department to shift the electric pole from the road, however no action has been taken in this regard, alleged the protesters.
The road blockade created a lot of inconvenience for tourists who have come to visit Puri and Konark as hundreds of vehicles were left stuck on Konark-Chandrabhaga Road.
On getting the information, Chandrabhaga police, Ramchandi police and Konark police arrived at the spot and pacified the agitating locals.
The cops also seized the body of the deceased person and sent it for post-mortem.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
