Sambalpur, February 18: A woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Mahanadi river reportedly following a domestic dispute.

According to sources, the woman identified as Anju Kumbhar jumped into the river from Burla bridge. The woman did not listen to the appeals of the bystanders and jumped into the river to end her life. Police later recovered her body and shifted it to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), where she was declared dead.

The deceased belonged to Mahatab Nagar under Burla police station.

According to reports, she was married but had been living separately at the time of the incident. Her parental home is located in Khetrajpur area of Sambalpur.

In a video which is now going viral on social media platforms, it was seen that the woman was speaking to someone on her mobile phone standing on the wall of bridge shortly before the incident. She was reportedly wearing a mask and sunglass.

However, the exact cause and circumstances leading to her death have not yet been confirmed.

Meanwhile, police recorded the statements of local residents and potential witnesses.
