Odisha launches state-wide School Safety Week from today

Bhubaneswar, June 20: All schools across Odisha will observe School Safety Week starting today, with the initiative set to continue until July 15, as part of a comprehensive effort to enhance safety and preparedness in educational institutions.

The Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) has issued detailed guidelines to all District Education Officers (DEOs) to implement a range of activities aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff.

The week-long program will commence with cleanliness drives and awareness campaigns on safety measures. Students will participate in pledge-taking ceremonies focused on school safety, and repair work will be carried out in critical areas such as toilets, classroom doors, and other basic infrastructure.

As part of the initiative, schools will prepare a School Disaster Management Plan, and emergency preparedness will be strengthened with the installation of emergency bells, public announcement systems, and microphones to facilitate communication during crises.

Regular inspections of fire extinguishers and sand buckets will be conducted to ensure functionality. First-aid kits will be checked and restocked with essential medicines. Safety checks will also be carried out on electrical equipment including fans and light fixtures.

Authorities aim to ensure that schools are not only centers of learning but also safe environments for all children. The initiative reflects the state’s commitment to prioritizing student safety and institutional preparedness across Odisha.
